After that, you must insert the toner cartridge (please refer to the toner cartridge replacement procedure, if you are installing a new toner cartridge) into the new drum unit until it clicks securely into place, and then install the new drum unit into the printer. Now, you must detach the toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by pulling it towards you while pushing down the blue lock release lever, but only if the toner cartridge is still useable (still contains toner), and then carefully take the new drum unit out of the protective packaging. ![]() Please note that, you should avoid touching the electrodes on the inner sides of the printer, the contact area of the toner cartridge, and also the sensitive surface of the photoconductive drum, which is located on the top side of the new drum unit. Therefore, you must open the front cover, and then take the exhausted drum unit out of the printer by grabbing its front side and carefully pulling towards you. The drum unit installed in your Brother MFC-8860DN Multifunction Printer is located in the middle of the compartment behind the front printer cover. ![]() Important: You should follow the current replacement procedure strictly and avoid touching any printer components that are not listed in the instructions given below, because some of the components/parts surrounding the drum unit will be extremely hot.
